On February 7th, 2019, in the context of the Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council, Mr. Tudorel TOADER, Minister of Justice, had a working meeting with the delegation from Bundestag’s Committee on the Affairs of the European Union. Mr. Kai Hennig, Plenipotentiary Minister of Germany Embassy and Mrs. Laura Grünewald, Head of Press, Protocol and Public Relations (Political Adviser) of the Embassy also attended the meeting.
The discussion topics advanced by the German representatives were: reforms in the justice domain (the independence of the judiciary); the role of Anticorruption Directorate; the effects generated by the amendments in criminal and criminal procedure laws regarding the mutual cooperation between the EU member states (European Arrest Warrant); the focus point of the Presidency of the EU Council: Europe of common values.
At the beginning, the Romanian Official emphasized that the activity of the Ministry of Justice will converge towards an effort of consolidation of the European project. In addition, it was affirmed that a solid European politic in justice matters will contribute to security and economic growth that will benefit the citizens and the business environment; the main principles remain the same: respect of the EU common values, of the rule of law and of the fundamental human rights and freedoms, the protection of legal traditions and of the member states’ various legal systems; the strengthening of mutual trust in the member states’ judicial systems.
The meeting represented an opportunity for consolidation of the bilateral relations.
