The meeting of Tudorel Toader, Minister of Justice, with Claude Moraes, President of the European Parliament’s LIBE Committee

Before the presentation of priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council in front of the LIBE Committee of the European Parliament (23 January 2019), justice minister, Tudorel Toader had a meeting with Claude Moraes, the president of the aforementioned committee, on 22 january 2019.

The Romanian Justice Minister expressed the goal of a close collaboration between the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council and the European Parliament in pending legislative files. Among other things, it highlighted the priority given to legislative proposals on electronic evidence in criminal field, the operationalization of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) and the improvement of mutual trust and mutual recognition in criminal field.

Regarding the operationalization of EPPO, the Minister of Justice stressed the importance of the collaboration between the Council and the European Parliament for the appointment of the European Chief Prosecutor in the current parliamentary term, and, regarding the appointment of European prosecutors expressed confidence that the timetable will be respected, – and nominate candidates until the end of March 2019.

The president of the LIBE Committee has expressed full confidence in Romania’s ability to achieve its justice objectives during the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and has shown that it can count on the support of the European Parliament to complete as many legislative dossiers as possible, before the European legislative elections.
